CO-VID 19 Impact on Homeless Houston

Hi everyone, I hope everyone had an awesome weekend! Today's post will be talking about the impact of the Coronavirus on homelessness in Houston! Also, reminders to donate to homeless foundations, such as the Coalition for the Homeless to help raise funds for housing!!!

As of 2021, a count conducted by the Coalition for the Homeless organization showed that in the Montgomery, Fort Bend, and Harris counties there are about 3,055 people who are homeless. This organization also found out that due to this pandemic 1 in 7 homeless people are in a homeless position because they were evicted from their home, job loss, or their job hours were cut which decreased their salary. Approximately 1,545 of the 3,055 homeless people in Houston are staying at shelters, but there are still many of them (1,510) living unsheltered, scattered around Houston. According to an article by the Houston Public Media, discussing the statistics of the pandemic impact among the unsheltered individuals, "Fifteen percent of unhoused people surveyed in greater Houston said the pandemic was to blame for their homelessness, due in large part to lost jobs and evictions caused by the financial impacts of COVID-19, according to an annual count of the region’s homeless population. Of those, 45% said this was the first time they were experiencing homelessness, the survey reported."

IMPORTANT INFO: Up to this point, Houston was the biggest city in America with no eviction securities for occupants in a city that is larger part leaseholders. The outcome is that a greater number of individuals have been removed from their homes in Houston than elsewhere in the country during CO-VID19. Even the government ban gave by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has neglected to stop expulsions in Harris Region.
